SKYE was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services, a high kill shelter in Texas.
SKYE is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, lepto vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 30 September 2013 and weighs around 14 pounds.
SKYE when was with his temporary foster family in Texas was very shy and was referred to as grumpy, however, since being here at the rescue amongst the rescue pack he has gained confidence and socializes well with the other dogs. He is still very wary of humans and will only let me stroke him, when I give him treats and by being calm and gentle and letting him see the other dogs interacting with me.
SKYE has really come out of his shell since being at the rescue. He loves to play with other dogs and he has no problem playing with either the small terriers or the larger German Shepherds. I do not know how he is with cats as we do not have cats in the rescue, although he is in the small dog room, where we have a rabbit in a hutch and he doesn't bother at all with it.
SKYE would benefit a family that understands small dogs needs, who, once he has gained trust and confidence will let him climb up on their laps and hang out together, but also go on nice adventures and let him experience the sights, smells and sounds that the world has to offer.
SKYE definitely needs a family that understands he will need time and no pressure to learn to trust his new family and settle in his new home. He would benefit from another dog being there so that he can learn and watch from them which helps build up confidence and trust.
SKYE is a very sweet boy who truly deserves a chance with a caring family, who knows what this poor boy has endured to be so fearful at such a young age.
SKYE is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350.
If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious small boy who was close to being killed a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 3-7 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.
SKYE is currently located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine, however, we post in states along the east coast where transport is available.this gives our precious saved souls more exposure and once adopted, we are able to save more dogs from the kill shelters in Texas that get 3 days before they are killed.
We love it when families can take a trip to meet the dogs before taking them home, but understand this is not always possible and so work in arranging transport to or closer to families homes. This can come at an additional cost, generally between $100 - $150 and is paid directly to the transport.
