Shepherds for Lost Sheep Inc.
We are veterans from multiple eras trying to enhance the lives of wounded veterans by helping to return their life to as close to "Normal" as possible. This creates a "New Normal". We are all veterans, including our volunteer staff, most of us are Certified Dog Obedience Trainers and all of us have different experiences that when combined provide a huge knowledge base.
Only someone who have walked in the shoes of a wounded veteran can understand what they go through when they return different than they left.
Veterans and active duty members write a blank check to this country for "up to and including their life". It is up to us to return the favor when they come home wounded.

On 20th October 2012, Shepherds for Lost Sheep Inc. and Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue signed a memorandum of understanding in that SFLS will assess and take into their program suitable GaDaH dogs. SIX were chosen on that afternoon, and the future of those and many more K9s and veterans lives soon to be changed forever with this wonderful partnership.
Shepherds for Lost Sheep, Inc. is committed to the training of Service Dogs that will enhance the lives of Veterans and mitigate the wounds of war.
While we focus primarily on the Psychiatric Service Dogs, we rarely find a veteran without a physical need as well. Therefore, we train our dogs to the individual veterans needs whether it is PTSD mitigation, traumatic brain injury (TBI) mitigation, or a mobility problem.
Message from the GaDaH President
Having previously had a bad experience with a Service Dog Training organisation, (Train a Dog - Save a Warrior) where they neglected a GSD that was given to them, and kept a GSD that was meant to go to an amputee, I was very wary to say the least when I received the email from Heather asking if GaDaH would be interested in a partnership,
After lots of emails, talking and research, I was over-joyed that we could work together and help place the wonderful GSDs that we save into a perfect lifestyle. On top of that, they are helping those that need them. GaDaH gave a new lease of life to the dogs, they are now giving a new lease of life to their veterans.
I cannot tell you how impressed I was when I met Heather and John, they spent many hours with the pack, and observed them for a long time before even beginning to assess them for their potential skills.
The partnership has joined a "pack" and a "family" together, to help and support, with mutual respect, understanding and goals. We look forward to an eternal partnership, and wonderful friendships.

Having spent 5 years doing rescue work myself, it is pretty easy to spot a group in it for the right reasons – SAVING DOGS! Although a lot of times, Jenny is a one-woman show, her heart is immense. She saves the dogs others would not bother with. She has great quality dogs that just need a little TLC and rehabilitation to be the perfect family companion. Her efforts are extraordinary and that is why we chose to work with the organization.
Shepherds for Lost Sheep, Inc. was founded by wounded warriors for wounded warriors. We are all wounded warriors. Give a Dog a Home – German Shepherd Rescue, was pretty unsure about us. After all they had never heard of us and had previously had a bad experience. BUT with patience and understanding, a lot of talking back and forth, sending our program materials out there, they finally gave us a chance.
Since then, we have identified 5 dogs that have the right temperament to be service dogs, actually she has a lot more, but we are a small organization and did not want to hold up too many of her dogs for our program if they could be adopted into nice homes.
As a certified dog obedience trainer/instructor, I have took on the task of evaluating each one and ensuring they will fit with our program. The partnership has been and will continue to be fantastic! We are saving lives together – not just the DOGS but the VETERANS we serve as well.
