ROCKY was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services, a high kill shelter in Texas. ROCKY had been taken from his so called owners from the animal control and was held whilst a cruelty investigation was put into place.
ROCKY had lived his life tied to a chain outside, he was skin and bone, very little hair, sores over his body and swollen painful feet.
ROCKY was taken direct to our vet for a medicated bath, assessment and treatment. He was hospitalized for 3 days before coming back to the rescue. He had demodex mange, skin infections, and low blood count levels.
Over the months of treatment, socialization and of course love, affection, structure and stability ROCKY has learned to trust and be part of the pack. His hair has grown back almost completely over his body and he has gained a good amount of weight and is a very happy boy. He plays fantastic with all of the dogs, both the small terriers and the German Shepherds. He did take a little while to learn about playing and boundaries but the dogs taught him well.
He does jump up with humans and does need to work on manners. He will pull on the leash, but does walk on it ok. ROCKY is extremely affectionate even though a human/s clearly showed him no love or cared for him, he just loves everyone that he meets.
ROCKY would be a great family boy, but does need a family that understands he does have a lot to learn and that basic and advanced obedience is a must. Training is best done by all of the family so that boundaries, expectations and peoples body language and personalities can be shown as would be the same for his family learning his.
ROCKY is a big boy and as his hair is growing it looks like he is most likely a Husky / Shepherd mix, but as with all of the dogs that we save from the kill shelters in Texas, we can never know for sure.
ROCKY is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, lepto vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 18 May 2013.
ROCKY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350.
If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this handsome boy who was close to being killed a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 3-7 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.
ROCKY is currently located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine, however, we post in states along the east coast where transport is available.this gives our precious saved souls more exposure and once adopted, we are able to save more dogs from the kill shelters in Texas that get 3 days before they are killed.
We love it when families can take a trip to meet the dogs before taking them home, but understand this is not always possible and so work in arranging transport to or closer to families homes. This can come at an additional cost, generally between $100 - $150 and is paid directly to the transport.
