MUGSLEY was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved. MUGSLEY is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative, and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 5th October 2016 and at the time of rescue at the end of September 2018 weighed around 19.80 pounds. He is listed as a Shih Tzu / Poodle. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.
MUGLSEY is a young an energetic, happy-go-lucky confident young boy who is ALL PUPPY, he is great with the other dogs of all ages and sizes, living amongst dogs from 6 pound chihuahua's up to 120 pound German Shepherd Dogs. He is friendly and happy to greet people and will bark when he notices something he is unsure of. He is a social boy and loves to explore and when ready to rest he curls up with his friends in front of the pellet stove keeping toasty warm. He is always happy to see people and runs in with the other dogs, tail wagging.
He does have a long coat which is going to take a lot of care and maintanance and this must be a consideration when thinking about giving this boy a home. If his grooming needs are not stayed on top of, his hair will matt and become painful. Groomers can be expensive so unless you are able to groom him yourself, this extra cost must be taken into account.
He is young and active and will need a family that can give him a good active life, suitable for his size. He is a puppy so chewing, barking / whining when left alone and needing house training are things to take into consideration. I have not seen him with children, but his demeanor and personality I have no doubt that he would be great with them and a lot of fun too.
As with all rescue's he needs guidance and training and we recommend families go through at least the basics of training with him themselves so that boundaries, personalities and body language can be learned from each other. He is young and still active and so a family that goes on adventures is preferred. He has never shown any kind of aggression at all, as mentioned she lives, eats and sleeps with lots of other dogs and enjoys their company and so a family with another dog would be great, but if not then it is important that he gets to play and interact with other dogs throughout his life.
We do NOT recommend dog parks for several months until a bond and trust and knowing to read his body language has been gained. We do NOT have cats or livestock at the rescue so cannot comment on how he will be near or around them. She does use the dog door in the kennels and so I would suspect that she is almost house-trained. He is most likely not going to know how to let you know that she wants to go out.
All dogs (except dogs saved from China) are available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
