MAOMAO was saved from a horrible shelter that provides dogs for the legal meat trade in China in the Yiwi City area, two hours outside of Shanghai. He, was saved by a wonderful rescue lady in China and together we are working on getting as many dogs from the shelter to the safety of GaDaH-CHINA in Sebec, Maine. We pay to get these dogs vetted, tested, quarantined and all other requirements to import them to the safety of the rescue in Sebec, Maine. The adoption fee's vary slightly depending on the weight and size of the dogs. MAOMAO's adoption fee is US $1,200 and covers the costs we incur to save these precious souls.
MAOMAO has been through the export and import quarantine requirements from China to the US. He has his rabies, core vaccines/lepto, heartworm, tick-disease and screw worm tested negative. He has been de-wormed, micro chipped and received any necessary monthly preventatives. He has an estimated date of birth of 16 May 2016 and he weighs around 16.5 pounds. We believe he is a Bichon / Maltese mix but can not know for sure, it is up to you to look at him and decide what breed you think he could be. He arrived in the United States on 22nd August 2018, flying from Shanghai International airport, landing at JFK and then was driven up to the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We are looking for families with knowledge of experience of the craziness of having a puppy and the work involved.
WE DO NOT HAVE CATS OR LIVESTOCK AT THE RESCUE SO ARE UNABLE TO COMMENT ON HOW HE WILL ACT NEAR OR AROUND THEM.
MAOMAO was paralyzed when he was found, he couldn't put his back legs down and walked with his back legs up above his head. He had surgery and acupuncture and with physical therapy and the help of a wheel-chair he is now able to walk. He does have a problem in where he cannot control his bladder and so is incontinent. During the night or if up on the furniture I either put him on a pee pad or a diaper on him, which he is used to, I just don't like to put one on him unless totally necessary. He does keep himself clean when no diaper on, he is able to poop on his own although sometimes does strain, but this could be due to all the changes in food, environment and such so he is currently being fed a soft food with some pumpkin to help him adjust.
He is a very sweet boy, he can get a little over-whelmed when all the other dogs are running around, but I think that is more of fear of being hurt, he is getting better and gets very excited when we are all outside and he can play in the grass and smell and chew on the grass. MAOMAO walks great on a leash, his only issues is his incontinence, but is easily controlled and it is not as if he is peeing all day.
He likes to play with toys when he is settled, although he prefers to be up close to me when he can. He would be a great lap dog, that still needs to go on walks and adventures, he is still young and has a lot of energy and needs exercise and stimulation like other dogs his size. He has been shaved down before he left China and so not as fluffy as he will be once his hair grows back, but he is definitely a love bug who has been through a lot of pain and suffering and now deserves a family of his own to love him and show him what a wonderful world it can be.
MAOMAO is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue which is located in Sebec, Maine, for an adoption fee of $1,200.
