DONATIONS
Any, and all donations are extremely gratefully received, no donation is EVER too small. Your donation will go a long way in helping Give a Dog a Home - San Antonio, German Shepherd Dog Rescue, (GaDaH) continue to save German Shepherd Dogs (GSDs) that are currently in KILL SHELTERS around Texas. GaDaH, tends to pull the GSDs, that are in need of a medical attention, these are the ones that generally get overlooked, and yet deserve as much of a good life as any other dog.
GaDaH, has dealt with numerous DISTEMPER cases, PARVO, KENNEL COUGH, PNEUMONIA, other VIRAL & BACTERIAL DISEASES. GSDs have been treated for HEART WORM (including have the pre blood test and x-ray to ensure the dog is healthy enough for treatment, and there are no other underlying health risks), REAR LEG AMPUTATION, FEMORAL HEAD OSTECTOMY (ball joint of hip with hip dysplasia and arthritis) and much more.
GaDaH is lucky enough to work closely with Dr. Guevara, Dr. Evans and their amazing team at Callaghan Road Animal Hospital, who care for all of GaDaH animals, from general health checkups, to any required surgery.
GaDaH could not continue to save these animals, and get them the best healthcare that they need and deserve, if it wasn't for people donating when they can. We understand the economy is hitting everyone hard, but have had people give up a cup of Starbucks, their last drink of the evening, or a pack of cigarettes to help us out. GaDaH appreciates that so much.
Along with the veterinary bills, we have to pay for many other things, Food; monthly preventative treatments; supplements for joints or immune support; Crates; Bowls; Collars; Leashes; Laundry supplies; Bleach/Disinfectant supplies and so much more. See wish list below, for just some items that are needed/used often.
If you have any items that you think GaDaH could put to good use, please let us know we would most probably be very grateful and have the perfect use for it. If you would like to donate a bag of Dog Food, or a few treats, that would be great also. We do have to be a little choosy with the Dog Food though, and ask for a higher quality food, for example, kibble that has MEAT, (not byproduct, or a grain first) this is due to the fact that the dogs are generally in a bad way, and we need to be giving them the best nutritious diet as we can.

KORI

KORI at Animal Care Services, San Antonio, where she was an owner surrender, she was going to be euthanized at 9am the next morning. San Antonio Pets Alive called GaDaH, knowing we have a weakness for cases like this, and on Monday, 20th February 2012 she came into the GaDaH pack. After just a few hours it was obvious that she needed much more care than I could give her, and so she was taken to Callaghan Road Animal Hospital for a week, where they treated and cared for her, until she was in a condition that could be dealt with whilst living with the pack.
KORI had severe demodex mange, and several skin infections, she still needed to be isolated for 3 weeks when she came home, but her improvement was already starting to show.
The bottom photograph was taken on Wednesday 21st March 2012 and you can see significant improvement. KORI still has considerable weight to gain, as she was so emaciated, and her hair needs to obviously continue to grow, but with treatment, love, care, and more importantly (I believe) a stable pack environment, any dog can flourish and find their true selves.
KORI, is learning to be social, she does get carried away when playing at times, but both pups, and adults alike teach her the boundaries. She is a beautiful, happy, dog, that will be looking for her PERFECT FOREVER FAMILY very soon.
