DAYTONA was saved from Fort Worth Animal Care and Control. He has who we believe to be a sister, REBA.
DAYTONA is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, lepto vaccine, de-wormed, heart-worm tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 20 April 2013 and at time of rescue she weighed around 65 pounds.
DAYTONA is friendly boy who gets on great with humans and other dogs alike, although he does take a little time to warm up and trust people. He is comfortable amongst the larger dogs and the small terriers that we have in rescue. We also have a rabbit in cages in the living room that he doesn't really pay attention to. We do not have cats so we cannot comment how he would react with them. He is wary when I am giving treats out and I have to get him away from the other dogs on his own for him to take it.
DAYTONA when he first came to the rescue stuck close to his sister, REBA, this was more in a protective way as she was very nervous and followed his lead in everything. Over time, REBA has gained a lot of confidence and is happy running and playing with the other dogs which has allowed him to be more confident and play more with the other dogs. He chases and runs around a lot and is full of energy and is very fun and playful.
DAYTONA has been on a walk with our volunteers and although clearly not used to the leash, he adapted quickly and seemed to enjoy himself exploring the new places he went on his walk. He does need more practice as he does get giddy but when corrected settles down and walks nicely.
DAYTONA would benefit an active family that has the time to spend with him to work on training and bonding and be able to take him to lots of different places so that he can enjoy all the different, sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. As mentioned, we do believe that DAYTONA has a sibling "REBA" who was kenneled together at the shelter and it would be great if we could adopt them together, but are willing to adopt them individually.
DAYTONA is very sweet and affectionate and deserves a family that can give him the love and happiness that this stunning boy desires.
DAYTONA is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $450.

If you would like to start the adoption process, please go to the application and complete, submit the form. Please ensure you tell your references that we will be contacting them. The process generally takes 3-7 days to complete depending on how quickly we are able to communicate with your references.
DAYTONA is currently located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine, however, we post in states along the east coast and Canada as this gives our precious saved souls more exposure and once adopted, we are able to save more dogs from the kill shelters in Texas that get 3 days before they are killed.
