CANELLO was saved from Fort Worth Animal Care and Control Shelter. He had been an owner surrender as he had bitten a child. The occurrence happened when the children were running away from them and he chased them and bit one on their bum (bottom).
Since CANELLO is only 10mths old and he has clearly had little to no training or guidance in how to behave or general manners, my guess is that he was playing and doing what is natural to the German Shepherd Dog "Herding". This is however, only my opinion since having him and seeing his behaviour, I was not there, nor have I seen any official paperwork. At the end of the day he did bite. It is really up to anyone interested in adopting him to make up their own assessment and feel if this is something they are happy to work with.
CANELLO at the rescue at first was extremely confident, he was trying to alpha the dogs in the treatment/rescue area (where he is transitioning) he didn't know how to behave amongst other dogs and with me he was constantly jumping up, pulling on the leash and just really had no idea how to behave.
Being with the other dogs has calmed him down considerably, although he does still try and be a little dominant and can try and bully a little. He doesn't get away with this and is put in is place by the dogs.
He is settling down more with me, and wherever I go, he wants to be. As I type he is lying at my feet asleep.
I believe that CANELLO has the potential to be an amazing dog. He most definitely needs a German Shepherd, or working dog experienced owner/family as he will need some work. He is confident and has a strong mind and it is important that people understand how his mind works and his needs.
He will need a strong alpha family, and an active family, he is young and has a LOT of energy. A family that understands his needs are not just physical, but equally as important he needs to be mentally challenged too.
CANELLO is at the perfect age to train and work with, he has so much potential to be able to do anything that he is trained and guided to do. He is loving and affectionate and is what we would call a "Diamond in the Rough".
Should you feel you are the family that can give this wonderful boy all that he needs a waiver will need to be signed, stating that you understand he has bitten and all information that we know at Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue has been disclosed and you accept and understand that.
CANELLO has an estimated date of birth of 9th January 2014, he is neutered, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, de-wormed, Heart-worm tested NEGATIVE and micro-chipped. He currently weighs around 50 pounds (24 November 2014).
CANELLO is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350.
