BROOKE-1 was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved. Brooke is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 17 June 2018. She is listed as a Lab/pit mix. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.
BROOKE was adopted in November 2018, however, returned to the rescue in April 2019 because she was fearful of the husband. After living with a family for 5 months she is of course confused as to what happened to her own home and family that she loved. Unfortunately we cannot explain to them what has happened and so she went through a sad time, but has bounced back and is happy playing with the other dogs.
We do not have cats or livestock at the rescue so are unable to comment how any dog is or will be around them.
BROOKE is going to need a family that is willing and has the time and patience to work with her apparent fear of men. She has never been aggressive in anyway, and so it is just going to take some love and understanding and I am sure she will warm up and get over any fears she might have.
Brooke did live with a family that had 5 young children and so is good with kids. She loves to chase and play with the dogs of all ages and sizes.
As with all dogs he will need basic and advanced training so that she can learn her families rules, boundaries and expectations. BROOKE is very responsive and I feel that she will be easy and fun to train and will be eager to please. She is a gentle girl and I think would make a great family dog.
BROOKE would be great in a family environment but she must understand that she is not in charge and that rules and boundaries must be followed, she is confident and so I am sure she would push and test the boundaries. She is young, fun and would be great for an active family to take her on long walks and adventures.
All dogs (except dogs saved from China) are available for adoption for an adoption fee of US $550.
Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org
