`The keen intelligence and train-ability of the breed have made the GSD the most versatile breed of working dog in the world.
In addition to their traditional jobs of herding, and later of police and military type work, this breed excels at rescue, tracking, obedience, agility, scent discrimination, all types of service work and as home sentry.

Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue - Living as a Pack!
photo - Jenny Cope

Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue (GaDaH) is run from Jenny's (the founders) home. Our ultimate aim is in helping to save the lives of homeless, and abandoned German Shepherd Dogs throughout Texas. Animals mainly come from HIGH KILL Animal Shelters, (where they have THREE days to be saved), or strays found aimlessly wandering the streets, starving, scared and homeless.
Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue strongly supports spay and neutering programs, and works with other organizations to promote, and provide education on spay/neuter programs, Heart worm preventative, general animal care, and other necessary programs.
Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue animals are all spayed/neutered; micro chipped; given rabies vaccination; any other required vaccinations; Heart worm tested; and receive all required medical treatment to ensure they are healthy, both physically and mentally, before they are placed in carefully screened homes.

Rescues...
Rescuers, rescue supporters, and volunteers do not walk on water. We don't wear capes and tights or leap tall buildings. We aren't better than anyone else, but we do pursue a cause that we believe makes us better than before we started. We make mistakes; we feel we can't do enough at home; we rant out in frustration; we lose our tempers and get snappy; we have to reject people sometimes for the good of a dog. We are not always likeable. What we do is draining, emotionally, financially and physically. Please bear with us and forgive us our flaws, because we are doing work that's bigger than we are.

How many lives did "WE" save in 2013
66 Dogs were adopted to wonderful families
5 dogs successful completed the SFLS Service Dog Training Program
15 Dogs / Puppies sadly passed to the Rainbow Bridge
66 Dogs are still available for Adoption
10 of the dogs still available were saved in 2012
66 + 5 + 15 + 66 - 10 = 142
142 dogs were saved from Kill Shelters, or a few saved as strays.
142 dogs that wouldn't have had a chance had GaDaH not stepped up to save their lives.
15 lost the fight, but we made sure they had every chance possible, we did not give up on them.
Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue could NOT have done this without your help.

Partners with San Antonio Food Bank
A project I have been wanting to get set up for almost a year has finally been completed. I completed the Food Bank Course in August 2013 and we have been working on getting a shed for the storage of the food. As with everything in rescue something always happens to delay other things, but we finally got our shed. There have been several people who have played an integral part of this...
On Thursday, 27th June 2013, Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue was approved to run a "Pet Food Bank". We are officially now a PARTNER AGENCY with the SAN ANTONIO FOOD BANK, working with the DAISY CARES PROGRAM.
We are hoping that we will get some volunteers to be part of the Pet Food Bank, maybe some children who want to get involved, hold Food Drives and help on Pet Food Bank Days.
I am very excited about this new project as now we are not only saving lives of GSDs in the kill shelters, but we are going to be able to help the community who are in need of some help with their pets.
It would be great to have two locations, one in Devine and one in San Antonio, but we shall see how things go and how many dedicated volunteers we get.
THANK YOU So much to those involved in Project Shed
- The wonderful family who was able to donate the shed since they was moving.
- Jenny from feral cat rescue for putting me in contact with them.
- Dean and Henry Mason, who went and took the shed down one evening and delivered it to Devine.
- Allison who brought the materials for the shed base.
- Donald, Rose, Red and Mr. Thomas who came out for two days to build the base and to put the shed together.

FIRST OFFICIAL Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog t-shirt!

We BROKE our goal from our FIRST t-shirt Fundraising Campaign. We set out to sell 100 t-shirts in a month, we sold 113 shirts, and raised $680.35 in additional donations, resulting in the grand total raised amount of $2,134.46!
I am pleased to say that supporters in the first campaign were extremely happy with the quality of the t-shirts, the color was great, much higher than they had expected.
We are planning on having another t-shirt campaign towards the end of summer, we have a great design idea.
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR MUCH NEEDED CONTINUED SUPPORT.
We will be ordering a stock of t-shirts so people can purchase them direct from GaDaH.

goes into PARTNERSHIP with Shepherds for Lost Sheep Inc.
Heather Fall, (Shepherds for Lost Sheep Inc.) and Jenny Cope, (GaDaH) surrounded by a few of the pack, signing the Memoradum of Understanding, the official starting point of this amazing new partnership!
Saturday, 20th October, 2012 |
Shepherds for Lost Sheep, Inc. was founded by veterans hoping to enrich the lives of other veterans dealing with physical and psychological injuries.
Our mission is simple! "To help veterans help themselves heal through the use of service K-9's." While we primarily train dogs for PTSD, TBI mitigation, we realize that those aren't the only areas of a person's health affected. We have zero paid staff!!! AND We are proud of it!!! All of our staff volunteers their time, expertise, and talent to assist in each dog's training. What does that mean for the veteran? It means all the money donated goes directly to the dogs!! If you have any questions before applying for our program, please feel free to contact our Veteran Liaison, Heather Fall at veteranliaison@shepherdsforlostsheepinc.org.
